Happy Thoughts – Your bucket of happiness

Today let’s talk about a tool to bring us back to center and balance out some of those negative energies that creep into our minds and lives.
purple bucket
One of my spiritual teachers said that her son was given a school project to fill up his bucket of positive happy thoughts and to keep it filled up.  What a lovely project for children. What are great project for adults!
We can visualise having a bucket and keeping it full of good,  empowering happy thoughts… things that make us feel good and move us forward.
Then if we have a thought that is counter to the things that we want to bring into our lives,  we can imagine  the level dropping in our happiness bucket, and take steps to get back into balance.
Sometimes our bucket is not so full maybe half full,  or maybe ground  down to the last few drops in our happiness bucket.

Or worse yet  if we do or say demeaning things about ourselves, about our goals, about our abilities, we can think of a little bucket as having dents in it where we’ve kicked the bucket.
This is just a little visualisation trick.  If we think of our little bucket as being decorated with flowers or whatever symbol is meaningful to us, when we abuse ourselves by thinking  negatively, by being down or harsh on ourselves, it’s like we are destroying our bucket of happiness.  We are kicking it & putting dents in it. We are damaging our little bucket of happiness… and at the same time ourself-esteem and personal energy.

This analogy may seem simple or childish but it is very powerful, because it is easy to see and easy to understand.

How is your bucket of happiness doing today? Is it full, or have you  kick a little hole in it and the energy is draining?
The good news is we can replenish that energy …we can repair the hole in our bucket of happiness.  We can repair the hole in our energy field.
The damage is not permanent.  Just as we must water a plant  to keep it from dying we must water  our spirits and our souls and our energy and our being with  affirmative, powerful thoughts and actions.
This includes action towards others as well …respect towards others.
So  what does your bucket look like? How would you design it in your mind?
Hold on to that picture, and keep it full of good positive energy. Top  it up as soon as you are able when you feel yourself flagging or your thoughts become a bit depressing or just not going in the right direction that you want.

I am talking to myself as well. I am going to make my bucket yellow with flowers on it,  or maybe blue with dolphins swimming around it, and I’m going to do my best to keep it full of good energy.  I can’t promise myself that sometimes I won’t put a few dents in my own bucket but I will do my best to recover.

How about you?  What visualisation what image do you use to keep your energy in the right direction? How do you to pull yourself back when you’re flagging or feeling a bit negative?
Let’s share and help each other!

Happy Thoughts – Ditch the Blame Game!

Hello!

image

Today let’s talk about blame. It’s not my fault … it was the weather …it was too much competition… I am too old…

There are so many excuses we can make when things go wrong. But let’s take a look at ourselves and see where the responsibility really lies.

How can we fix things so that we’re in a positive flow and moving forward?

Here are a few thoughts! 🙂

Of course there are often circumstances that are out of our control, but let’s try to think of a way around things instead of playing the blame game, and coming to a dead stop.

If we didn’t get what we want, let’s think, how we can change things. Do we need more training? There are so many online courses -like at Udemy and other websites – that we can take.  YouTube has a plethora of videos that we can watch.

Was the timing right  to take action, to have made a move? Perhaps we asked someone for something, and they were preoccupied. Perhaps another time would have been better. That means maybe we can try again later.

Did we try to do something when we were too tired; if we pushed ourself too hard? That means we can give it another go when we’re more rested.

Was our plan a bit too ambitious? In that case maybe we can break it down into smaller bits,  instead of blaming the fates or circumstances

Of course we often need help from others, community, friends, colleagues.   We should also be aware of the competition & know their methods. We should know the latest trends in our field. But at the very end it’s down to us, and a big dose of determination, persistence or perseverance, and faith.

I’m talking to myself as well. Blame is an energy drainer. Let’s permit ourselves a little moan once in a while, but then let’s  quickly drop it, and live a little lighter and with a bit higher energy, positive energy.

What do you think? Let’s share. How do you deal with times when you feel like blaming anything & everything & everyone? Let’s help each other!

Happy Thoughts-Waiting for perfection

Hello, hello, hello…
Many blessings to you.

Naturally shaped heart found on Great Mis Tor in Dartmoor, England

Today, we’ve got a video podcast (with a positive affirmation) that I made.

It’s to remind us that things don’t have to be perfect, with every alternative considered, as we begin to pursue our goals and dreams.

Take it bit by bit! 🙂

We don’t have to be perfect. Just make a start from wherever we are right now! Take the first step with confidence and faith.

Happy Thoughts-The Isle Of Avalon -a photo diary

What is now known as Glastonbury was, in ancient times, called the Isle of Avalon. It is virtually an island, for it is completely surrounded by marshlands. In Welsh it is called Ynys Afallach, which means the Island of Apples and this fruit once grew in great abundance.

image

The apples still thrive in Glastonbury!
We visited the Avalon Orchard on the slopes of Glastonbury Tor.

image

There are many varieties of apples growing there.

image

image

image

It’s a place that everyone can experience. Some people go there to meditate and enjoy the peace & quiet. Alternately, they have family activities sometimes, like apple picking in the autumn I believe, and wassailing in January.

Wassailing is an ancient custom that involves drinking cider, singing to the trees in the hope of a good harvest and scaring away any evil spirits that might be lurking.

As we went in the spring-Easter Monday to be exact -there were no apples, but it was the lambing season. Those little critters are quite fearless, and curious, so I was able to take photos.

image

image

image

image

The Tor is managed by grazing sheep and cows. The livestock help to keep the grass short in a natural and traditional way.

The walk up to the Orchard was quite lovely.

image

image

image

We did what we called “the spiral dance:
..walking around the Tor this time,  instead of up and down theTor. Walked up the increasingly  steep hill past the White springs, around the Tor to the Avalon Orchard, then down and around  the narrow path to join up with the steps that marked the descent down the Tor.

It was a fantastic day, and I look forward to returning in the autumn to feast on nature’s bounty & great variety of apples.

By the way, as usual, Glastonbury rocked! I love the spiritual vibes and nipping into my favourite shops for incenses & coffee and grub. 😁

Happy Thoughts-Easter time in Devon, a photo diary

Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far. Thomas Jefferson

image

It’s photo diary time. The Easter weekend is indeed a good time for exploring and getting out & about.

We spent some of that time walking about Great Mis Tor and Little Mis Tor on the moors, Dartmoor, Devon England.

Great Mis Tor is 538 meters above sea level and one of the highest points on Dartmoor.

image

image

image

Yes, it really is this desolate on the moors!

Being in the open spaces often makes us feel like connecting with nature through a bit of meditation or yoga as well.

image

image

image

The moors are where the Dartmoor ponies live and freely roam. Visitors are not to feed them, so the ponies can stay in good health. However, hubs found a curious pony who wasn’t adverse to a quickie selfie. I was quite surprised!

image

image

When we weren’t communing with nature & ponies there was plenty of pub time. 🍻 Yahoo!

Real ale & cider… Devon’s finest…

image

image

image

And let’s finish off this photo diary with the perennial favourite…scones

image

If you go hiking up on the moors, you never know what you’ll find there! Have a look at the video.

Happy Thoughts – Individuality and Greatness

Greetings! We’ve got a bit of a stream of consciousness-type blog today.

img_20160607_174548.jpg

Today let’s think about being comfortable with ourselves.

We don’t have to envy others. As we are is good enough. We can improve ourselves of course &  we can strive to do better, but it’s good to be comfortable where we are.

Maybe we should not waste energy wishing we were somewhere else or, even, wishing we were somebody else. I’ve been there. Yeah!

We are as we are. Let’s speak to our selves with love, with every word speak to ourselves as if we’re speaking to a good friend. Then we can feel free to make progress, because we don’t have that painful sense of ego; of not being good enough attached to our goal.

Thus our journey forward towards our goals will be much easier to make.

Maybe it won’t make life less challenging but we certainly can handle the ups and downs better when we appreciate our selves and our egos are not on the line.

Here’s a little reading from “a dhammapada for contemplation”

“Those who are envious, stingy and manipulative remain unappealing  despite good looks and eloquent speech.

But those who have freed themselves from their faults and arrived at Wisdom are attractive indeed.”

We are worthy and good enough, as we are.

What do you think? Let’s share & help each other!

How do you keep balanced,  amongst so-called competition and people who are a bit further along the journey than yourself?

You are great! 🦋
